Bara Imambara: Your first stop will be the Bara Imambara, a magnificent architectural marvel. Construction of the Bara Imambara began in 1784 during a devastating famine, and it was completed in 1791. The project was initiated by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula with the intention of providing employment to the people in the region during the famine. The complex includes the grand Imambara, the Bhulbhulaiya (a labyrinth), and an imposing gateway. British Residency Complex: Next, you'll visit the British Residency Complex, a group of historic buildings that served as the residence for the British Resident General, who was the representative in the court of the Nawab. The Residency is located in the heart of the city and is surrounded by other historical monuments such as Shaheed Smarak, Tehri Kothi, and the High Court Building. Rumi Darwaza: Your tour continues to the Rumi Darwaza, a sixty-foot-tall imposing gateway. This architectural masterpiece was constructed under the patronage of Nawab Asaf-Ud-daula in 1784. It is a splendid example of Awadhi architecture and was modeled after the Sublime Porte in Istanbul. Originally, it marked the entrance to Old Lucknow City, but as the city expanded, it became an entrance to a palace that was later demolished by British insurgents. Hazratganj: In the afternoon, you'll have free time to explore Hazratganj, the downtown area situated in the heart of Lucknow. This bustling district is not only known for its bazaars but also houses shopping complexes, restaurants, hotels, theaters, and offices. After your day of exploration, return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
