Embark on a captivating full-day excursion from Hyderabad, exploring the historic treasures of Bidar. Our guided tour takes you on a journey through time, visiting the following remarkable attractions:
Bidar Fort: Explore one of Karnataka's magnificent forts, believed to date back to the Western Chalukya dynasty. This quadrangular fort spans 1.21 km in length and 0.80 km in breadth, boasting a Persian architectural style. Surrounded by three miles of walls and featuring 37 bastions, it is enclosed by a triple moat, with seven gates.
Mahmud Gawan Madarsa: Visit this beautiful structure, originally built by Khwaza Mahmud Gawan in 1472. Gawan, a Persian merchant who rose to become the prime minister of the Bahamani Sultanate, left behind this impressive Islamic university. The architecture bears a resemblance to the buildings of Samarkand, with a three-story structure and 100-foot tall minarets in the four corners.
Bahmani Tombs: Located in Ashtur, these tombs are an essential historical site in Bidar. There are 12 tombs of Bahmani Sultans within the same compound, all featuring grand arches, niches, and lofty domes. Ahmad Shah Wali's tomb is particularly renowned, known for its thick walls and huge dome.
Narasimha Jhira: Explore this cave temple dedicated to the lion god Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple, situated on the outskirts of Bidar, is believed to house a self-manifested and powerful idol. To reach the deity, devotees must walk through a 300-meter tunnel under the Manichoola hill range, with a stream of water flowing continuously.
The Rangeen Mahal: Dating back to the mid-16th century and built by Mahmud Shah Bahamani, this palace is a testament to intricate tile work and granite with mother-of-pearl inlay. The external hall features intricately engraved wooden pillars and a six-bay hall with remarkable carved wood columns.
Guru Nanak Jhira: Visit this revered Sikh site, considered one of the holiest places for Sikhs. Legend has it that Guru Nanak visited the palace during a famine, and his miracle caused a spring of crystal-clear water to burst from the laterite rock mountain. This water is believed to have curative properties.
After an enriching day of exploration, we will return to Hyderabad, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
